Raczkowski, Kringe win NEPA HS Soccer’s “WVC Girl’s Defender of the Year”

What’s the first thing you think of when the position “defender” comes to mind? In my opinion, that position is just as important as any other on the pitch. They are the names you don’t hear in the papers, yet play such a key role in the game. Maybe it’s making a vital tackle, or clearing the game winning goal off of the line. There are so many great backs in the league, so let’s get into who the public voted for.

Kalee Raczkowski, a sophomore at Lake-Lehman has been outstanding for the Lady Knights this season. Her and the rest of her back line allowed an average of 0.85 goals allowed per game in the regular season, and 8 clean sheets. Kalee also plays year round on her club team “Back Mountain Impact.” So it’s no surprise she is ready to play come the fall, and it shows.

Lacie Kringe, a sophomore at Hazleton Area also is more than deserving for this award. Kringe came into the season as a player to watch out for, and she performed to that standard. The Lady Cougars didn’t have the best season, but when playoffs came around they were a different team. Kringe and the rest of the back line held Wilkes-Barre Area to 2 goals in 4A quarterfinal, then shut out Wyoming Valley West in the 4A semifinal.

Respectively, and not too far behind Raczkowski and Kringe in my public poll… Abby Seely (Berwick), Kayla Kresge (Crestwood), Kaitlyn Conrad (Dallas), teammates Chase Purdy and Marissa Brdaric (Lehman), and Chloe Chipego (Wyoming Valley West).
